In this course students willbecome familiar with language specific for Science and Engineering and beprepared to apply that knowledge to oral presentations as well as essay writingwith the greater focus on presentation skills. Writing and presentations skillswill be the same skills that learners can expect to use in the workplace aftergraduation.
This class is a prerequisite for “Professional Academic English”, a required course to be taken in the second year. Students who are assessed as Level G at the beginning of freshman year must pass this course to take “Professional Academic English”. This course will focus on the development of students’ basic oral and written skills through in-class presentations and weekly writing assignments.
In this course students will engage English through a variety of activities designed to simulate real life situations as closely as possible. Students will learn colloquialisms, different levels of politeness and other meta-linguistic skills necessary to live abroad in an English speaking environment for extended periods of time.
In this class students will get practice in preparing presentations in English. Focus will be on the skills necessary to give a successful presentation including; body language, organization, voice, and more.
